City of Eastland
Awarded $750,000 Texas
Capital Fund Grant
Eastland City Hall, Eastland,
Texas – Don Wilson, Eastland City Manager, announced today that
the City of Eastland
has applied for and received a $750,000 Capital Fund grant from the Texas
Department of Agriculture. The grant includes funds for the construction of
waterlines, sewerlines and streets to a 10 acre tract at the former Camp
Inspiration property located on Highway 6 on the city’s west side. The tract
was acquired by Eastland Economic Development, Inc. (EEDI) in 2004 and
transferred to Eastland Assisted Living Corporation (EALC) in anticipation of
the construction of an assisted living facility on the site. The facility will
be staffed with about 30 employees. The grant writer was Judy Langford of Langford
Community Management Services in Austin,
Engineering was done by Scott Hay, P.E., of Hibbs and Todd in Abilene, and funding for writing the grant
was provided by EEDI.
The
44 unit facility will be patterned after the fabulous YO Hilton in the Texas hill country, and
will include 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, and a separate Alzheimer’s section
with private and semi-private rooms. Three meals a day will be provided as well
as assistance with daily living activities. The facility will be staffed 24
hours a day. A beauty shop, barbershop and cleaners are just a few of the
amenities that will be available in the complex. Construction funds have been
provided through a $5.2 million United States Department of Agriculture secured
loan.
Mr.
Wilson goes on to state, “Receiving the $750,000 Capital Fund grant is timely
and most beneficial to Eastland as there are no matching funds required, and
will allow the City to install the needed infrastructure to our Assisted Living
Facility.”
Eastland
County Judge and EALC Chairman Brad Stephenson states, “The need for this type
of assisted living facility has been evident for years in Eastland County
as a result of our aging population base. Through the efforts of the Eastland
City Commissioners, Eastland Economic Development, Inc., and other community
leaders, Eastland will acquire a state of the art facility that will serve the
needs of our growing senior population.”

EEDI
President Jim Farrar agreed. “The
development of infrastructure at Camp
Inspiration is vital to
that project, and will shortly impact the entire city. The approval of the $5.2
million USDA secured loan, coupled with the $750,000 Capital Fund grant, puts
the major obstacles to construction in our rear view mirror. Judge Stephenson
and his board are to be commended for taking the ball and running with it.”
Eastland
Mayor Mark Pipkin states, “There is
no doubt, unprecedented funding is pouring into Eastland… driving our economy
to new heights. Community leaders are seeing their vision for a better Eastland
become a reality as a result of their planning, hard work, and perseverance.”
Eastland’s
Assisted Living Center
is projected to open in the spring of 2007. Those interested in securing
residence or developing property at the Camp Inspiration
site should contact Jerry Conner, Eastland Development Consultant, at (972) 830-9005.
